Kid Kilowatt Kid Kilowatt was originally called Ester of Wood Rosin and was formed during a low point in Cave In, around August of 1996 by Aaron Stuart of Piebald, Matt Redmond, Adam McGrath and Steve Brodsky. This was our little softie rock outlet from the metal of Cave In. We rehearsed a bunch, recorded a 4 song demo, and played many of the same shows as Cave In. Eventually, Aaron got too busy with Piebald and gave us the heave-ho, so Kurt / Converge hopped on board and we switched the name of the band to Kid Kilowatt (taken from a Guided by Voices song of the same title). Sometimes we performed in bright colored suits ala "Dick Tracy". We got to play shows with some really great bands like Giants Chair, Regulator Watts, and Jejune.
We recorded as Kid Kilowatt only once before the official demise of the band, in July of 1997 (one song ended up on the 1st Hydra Head CD sampler). It wasn't until sometime in the fall of 1998 that we decided to try and record everything we had written as a band, just to have it completely off our chest. We all enjoyed the songs very much, it was just that no one in the band could devote the proper amount of time with Converge and Cave In being so busy.
So from the fall of 1998 to the fall of 1999, we went in and out of GodCity and recorded all the songs we could in bits and pieces, and it's quite evident from the sound of the record. We even wrote a few new ones in the studio while we were tracking, and we are very happy with the overall results. "Guitar Method" is the first and final posthumous Kid Kilowatt release.
Hydra Head will be issuing the CD version, and Second Nature Recordings will be issuing the vinyl version. In the meantime, a limited Kid Kilowatt 7" featuring one album track and one non-album track has been released by Second Nature Recordings during the month of April, 2001. |
